Junkers at The I.C.E. St. Moritz 2026: Landing on historic ground

One last low pass over the ice. Below, the frozen Lake St. Moritz glistens in the winter sun. The surface is perfectly prepared. Then the wheels touch down. Smoothly, precisely, confidently.

On January 27, 2026, that’s exactly what happened: our Junkers A50 Heritage St. Moritz Edition landed on Lake St. Moritz. A rare moment. And one that immediately brings to mind a chapter in early aviation history.

A performance as part of The I.C.E. St. Moritz

The A50 Heritage was presented at The I.C.E. St. Moritz 2026, one of Europe’s most exclusive winter events. Here, classic cars, design, and elegance meet the unique backdrop of the Engadin. For us, St. Moritz was the perfect place to bring aviation history to life. Because this is exactly where Junkers aircraft landed over 100 years ago.

Remembering the legendary F13 landings

Landing on the lake harks back to the days of the Junkers F13. At the beginning of the 20th century, it brought wealthy international guests to the Engadin by plane. These early flights helped establish St. Moritz as a world-class winter destination. The A50 Heritage revives this connection. It pays homage to the pioneering spirit of aviation at that time and to the legacy of Junkers Aircraft.

Precise planning and close coordination

Landing on a frozen lake is not a spontaneous moment. It requires preparation and clear procedures.

The operation was carried out with great care:

  • Approval by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), based on historical F13 landings
  • Aircraft preparation at Engadin Airport, including wing assembly and engine inspection
  • Collaboration with SeeInfra AG in setting up the 400-meter-long ice runway under the direction of CEO Patrick Blarer
  • Overflight and aerial inspection of the landing zone immediately before landing
  • The successful landing attracted considerable public interest and also received international attention.

Details that tell a story

Up close, it was clear what makes the Junkers A50 Heritage so special: a handcrafted wooden propeller, a seven-cylinder radial engine with 124 hp, and a custom paint job in glacier blue, which shimmers between blue and green and reflects the frozen lake. Technology and craftsmanship meet clear design language and a strong historical lineage here.

Elegance and innovation as a legacy

Almost 100 years ago, the Junkers F13 revolutionized luxury air travel. Its landings on Lake St. Moritz symbolized progress, adventure, and sophistication. With the Junkers A50 Heritage, we are continuing this tradition. It represents a combination of innovation, craftsmanship, and stylish travel.

For us, St. Moritz 2026 was therefore more than just an appearance at a winter event. It was a moment when the past and present came together in a unique way.
